Algebra is ‘pure’ math. You learn to manipulate numbers, to work tricky equations, etc., but none of the math is tied to the real world. Technical math is math for the real world–what you need to know to design a mechanical part, to figure the area of a building so you’ll know how much paint you’ll need, stuff like that. It rests on algebra, but you learn only what you actually need to know.
Either of these would prepare you for aviation math. You don’t use a lot of very serious math in aviation. You do navigation problems, including the effect of crosswinds (and you do these with a calculator–they don’t even teach you the trig involved). You figure weight and balance, which is not complicated. And fuel/distance/time calculations.
