It would be safer to start on the grass and with chocks in place!

it was common that after 8 hours instruction, the student would then go solo, they then would be legible to apply for a flying club certificate which is what they had before pilots licenses. The test would be to climb to a certain altitude, do a couple of figure of eight turns and then land again without damage to the a/c. After you received your certificate you could b=pretty much do what you want

the de havilland flying school was one of the first flying schools in the U.K. to be subsidised by the govmt. They received 1000 pound a year from them. Considering the average man received about 5 pound a week that is quite allot of money. The cost before they were subsidized was 5.5 pound an hour at the dehavilland flying club

Actually, government subsidy of flying clubs between the wars made private aviation much less expensive in real terms than it is today.

Hello! I own an original 1929 DH60 Gipsy Moth as shown in this video, and I can say from first hand experience that this is one of the sweetest and easiest airplanes I’ve ever flown! She’s a real joy! Thanks for sharing, Bomberguy!

I say, I do really so much wish all you chaps would stop taking the piss. After all, it really WAS like that if you had plenty of money in those days. Without any radios or ATC, you could pretty much do what you liked and be much more relaxed about everything.
The clipped upper class accents may make it seem as if the girl in this film is delivering the Queen’s Christmas address, but the point it that the world in those days was, as I have said, really like that.
Keep ‘em coming, Bomberguy!

Oh I say Mr. Fulton, do they serve cocktails in the Rudder Bar?
May your shadow never grow less Bomberguy.

That’s the way it was..and should be. Flying can be as easy as that, if you don’t have to worry about all the modern regulations.
Keep ‘em coming, Bomberguy!
