I’m making my first visit to a flight school tomorrow – could somebody please help prepare me? I’m really nervous. What can I expect?
This is to wcanoodle; huh?
Is one of the instrucotrs going to take me on an introductory flight?
Expect to ASK questions, you will have them answered.
you will more than likely be introduced to an instructor and he will show you around and maybe you can put yourself on the schedule for a discovery flight..It will not be intensive at all. Basically you will be meeting some people and seeing what kind of aircraft you will be training in.
This is a very normal approach, when I was flight instructing full time I spent alot of time breaking in new students (discovery flights, etc.) you will LOVE it! Good luck in your journey to join us in the skies!
To wcanoodle: what kind of remark was that?? we do not look at everyone that way…grow up!

Your avatar looks suspiciously like one of those 911 guys…I think you can expect suspicious looks unless you have a relative who knows someone there…

introductions to staff and the facilities, safety procedures and "perhaps" some initial "taste test" of flying, but don’t count on that one. Perhaps some intro to a hangar/parking area, and the safety procedures whist in/on one. It won’t be too intensive, but take notes, because every word will be important-your life may depend on them early on. In all things, the only dumb question is the one you didn’t ask!

This is a good time to ask questions, and see if it’s the type of environment you want to invest a lot of time and money in.
Get a feel for the attitudes of the instructors and staff, ask where they get their maintenance done, how old the planes are etc.. Also see how much availability they have on their schedule, and see if that fits what you have for free time. Might be a good idea to ask if they offer block time discounts and even group groundschool classes to save a bit of money.
Don’t be afraid to let them know what your needs/goals are, and see if they’re willing and interested to help you out. Hopefully you find a place you really like, good luck.
