Tomorrow is my birthday and my dad is signing me up for flying lessons and they are going to start me off with a flight. Any advice. I have been reading about how to fly and playing flight simulator X but I am still nervous. Any advice?
Its not that I’m scared of flying, to tell you the truth, I am more excited about flying than I am scared. Its probably one of those things you get before doing something for real.

Always remember this… you DO NOT have to take off… but you HAVE TO land…

Good words up there^ I started taking lessons a bit ago and honestly there is no reason to be nervous, sure you might at first but really you are more likely to crash in a car than a plane for sure. Also remember if you don’y wanna go flying then tell your dad. If you don’t want to be a pilot dont let someone make you. Flying is a choice and it’s freedom. If you wanna be a pilot I’m sure you will get rid of that fear in no time ; ) Hey you aren’t sky diving tomorrow are u?

What part of the flying scares you? Everyone that takes private pilot lessons is afraid, especially on your first solo flight! What you need to do is to get the first lesson under your belt and speak to your instructor about what part of the flight you liked and what scared you. Fear is a healthy emotion, however, it needs to be converted quickly into respect for the airplane and then you can concentrate on learning and becoming a competent pilot. Best of luck,it’s a hoot!

Why do people do these risky things that can not only kill them selves, but kill Innocent people on the ground as well?

Relax and have fun with it, there’s no need to be nervous at all. You will be with a highly trained instructor that I assure you will be able to recover with no problem if you make a mistake. It’s natural to be a little nervous before flying for the first time and some of the maneuvers may make you feel a little uneasy, but after you do them a few times they will be natural.

You should be a little nervous! It is a good thing at this stage so do not worry.
Being a “Little nervous” suggests respect and anticipation for the journey you are about to embark on. Good qualities that bode well for your chances of becoming a future aviator.
To not be a little nervous before your first lesson and many thereafter suggests arrogance and ignorance, traits that do not belong in the cockpit.
Your instructor will be a commercial pilot with a demonstrated ability to teach and remedy any dangerous aspect of flight probably before you even know it occurred.
So look forward to and make the most of the opportunity you are being afforded.
Best wishes.

why do people associate fsx with actually flying a plane, it gives you no advantage and is a waste of time, don’t be nervous there is a profesional sitting right next to you.

Bring lots and lots of money. Try to finish your license as quickly as possible, because if you have long breaks in between flights, you will loose proficiency and just start reflying the same lessons over and over again, and all this will do is cause aggravation and loss of money.

Relax and enjoy modern aircraft since the 1920s almost fly themselves. The first time up in a light aircraft watch the ground as you leave the runway. I found this helped calm me and take away the sudden change in perspective. It is defiantly an experience that will help you grow weather or not you continue all the way to your private license.
Of course you can always rely on you martial arts training to shake the butterflies by breathing. Most instructors will let you take it up the first lesson. Landing is a bit more tricky but not that bad. I envy you as there is nothing better than the first time, and you are in for a series of first times. First take off, first landing, first solo, first cross country, first where the he!! am I,and more.

At first your instructor will be bearing most of the responsibility. You will have a lot to learn before you get to do any real flying, and even then you will be too busy to be nervous even though you will just be doing endless circuits. You’ll be fine.
