hovering is all about visual reference, as with all forms of flight lol. they say pick at spot 50-75 feet in front of the helicopter and adjust for any movements, but i feel that is way too close to focus, i look waaaayyyy outside, as far as you can because the further out the reference point is, the easier it is to make the adjustments, that how i do it. with the cyclic, you dont need anybig movements when hovering, small control pressures will be more than plenty!imagine a golf ball on a straw

have you ever been flying? It is one of the best experiences i have ever had!!! At the moment im taking fixed wing training, its mainly due to the cost of helos. I love everything aviation, and if i had the money to spend on the helicopter flying i would definately do it. I would for sure reccomend the taking a first flight experience, its diffrent from anything else!
Also, i think the helicopter flying is cool in the fact that it is difficult, in reference to the driving lesson-more dif = fun

@twcpilot …you know i’m getting less/less motivated to spend money for the real heli experience. It seems like taking a driving lesson for the first time, and finding out that you have to drive “stick shift”.

well, i only tried it once and that was ahwile ago, so i may be wrong. But, I was told by the intructor to pick a point in front of me, and then judge the movemnt of the helicopter and correct through that point. I definelty felt a delayed response of the controls, which makes overcorrecting not hard to fall into. i was making small jabs but that was the overcorrecting. this should not happen when done properly. I think i relied on both balacne and a visula refrence.

Nice first timing. I’ve never done, but I’m familiar with the control layout. When hovering? Did you rely on visual reference to correct the cyclic? Or did you rely on balance sensation? Also, the cyclic stick response. Did you have to make small jabs back/forth? Or was it push/hold/wait kinda response? Thanks…T

No, not yet. I dont plan to take any until i want to get my commerical license. It’s just too expensive to get a private license for fun.
