I’ve been training in a C172 round dial and I’m almost ready for the check-ride. I’ve been thinking about where to go next and was considering learning to fly the G1000 since my flight school has a couple of them in their fleet. How long would it take a fresh pilot to learn to fly one of those things (hours-wise)? I’m assuming it can’t be TO difficult!

Assuming you are talking about the Garmin G-1000 glass cockpit display, most of the nuts and bolts can be done on the ground with a PC…
Much of the “switchology” can be done on the ground in the airplane, with actual flight time under five hours depending on your ability to integrate the information in flight.

Took me only a few hours to get used to it.
I checked out the new Mooney as i am thinking of upgrading my panel this year.
There are students here that are using it right from day 1.

King School makes a very good video that will teach you how to use G1000. It’s really not that hard, just lots of buttons and switches compared to a steam gauge, but it’s actually pretty simple. I would recommend the video because it will teach you all the functions and you will be able to get the most out of it, but you could probably jump in one and take off with no problem.
