I come from Sydney and I have played with RC helicopters before. Im pretty sure any backyard is big enough. You don’t need to join a club for it. If your RC helicopter is big (>30cm)then you should go to a park to fly it around if it is small (<30cm) you can fly it around the backyard.
Make sure you don’t fly it on a windy day though. One time I was flying it and it blew into a tree and broke.

if its your first “real” rc heli, then i recommend a club because you socialize with people that have done this for a good amount of times and you’ll learn plenty of things. if its not your first “real” rc heli and you are an experience flyer, then its OK to fly in your backyard unless you have a 600 or a 700 sized heli that is nitro! then you need to go in a park(club is better).
