Elizabethton High School in Northeast Tennessee offers students three aviation courses; Introduction to Aerospace, Theory of Flight A, and Theory of Flight B. I’m writing a novel in which the main characters need to take a Cessna 310 airplane and convert it to an alcohol (ethanol) fuel. I’ve researched it enough to know that it can and has been done in commercial settings, and from what I gather a plane that runs on aviation fuel (rather than diesel or jet fuel) would probably be the easiest type of plane to convert. I’ve read enough about the process to pick up the basics- but I have no real life knowledge of aviation mechanics or fuel conversion. My main questions would be:
1) what are the (generalized) steps you would need to take, in order..
2) what sort of new parts would you need to acquire
3) would any specialized tools be needed
4) what would need to be done to an ethanol fuel to make it run in an airplane?
