No. 3 in becoming a deaf pilot series. www.faa.gov Be sure to print out a copy to bring to a flight school to show that becoming a deaf pilot is possible and legal. www.aopa.org Enter your zip code to find closest flight schools. If you live in a rural area, be prepared to drive for a couple of hours to the nearest school. Establish a good rapport with people, especially instructors there. Instill in them the confidence that they can communicate with you, especially while flying the plane (to you paranoid hearing guys, come on, gimme a break, it only takes a couple of seconds to glance at the sheet, beside the control is swapped whenever the attention is diverted). For those who think it’s not our obligation to pay “a bit more” for their time “to communicate with us”, fyi, flight school charge by hour, especially when the engine is running so it’s only fair to pay whatever time you are using their service.
