Hows it going. Im a pilot, and im slightly color blind. Now i failed my color portion of my medical. and when i did this back in 2005 you could just go to a control towered airport, have them shoot a red, green, and white light at you. If you could pass this test the FAA would send you what is called a Letter of Evidence (LOE). so now i can skip the color portion my whole life. The FAA stopped handing these documents out last july. so now to obtain this LOE you have to complete a harder test. an FAA inspector will take you flying and make you tell him the colors of Light Gun signals (red, green, and white). Taxiway lights (Blue). Runway lights (white, amber, and red). Airport rotating beacon (green, and white). VASI’s or PAPI’s (Red, and white). Also he will meet with you on the ground and make you point out all the colors on a aeronautical chart. I would of failed the chart part if i had to take this test. i can tell the difference in lights but dull colors on paper get me everytime. GOOD LUCK
P.S. Yes you can for Airlines…& Marine Pilots can be slightly colorblind (people are ignorant)

It all depends on the severity and type of your color blindness. If it’s not very severe, and if you can pass a practical test administered by the FAA, you can fly, and you can even become a commercial airline pilot. The FAA test is easier than the test used by doctors, because it just tests to see if your vision is good enough to fly; it’s not designed to look for every little trace of color blindness.
There are airline pilots who suffer from color blindness. As long as they passed the test, they can still fly.
If you cannot pass the test, sometimes you can get a license with restrictions, but then you cannot become an airline pilot, only a private pilot (generally).
